The Loowatt team was involved in a workshop for the Panchabhuta Conservation foundation located in Kagal village in coastal Karnataka, India. Hosted by Mangal Sheety and Deepak Sarin in collaboration with architects Sami Rintala, Daggur Eggertsson and Pasi Aalto. The aim of the workshop was to create an eco-home model that was affordable, sustainable and replicable on a large scale. We brought lots of information about how they might set up toilets and anaerobic digesters, and had a great time working with the group.

For more pictures and other similar projects check out the following websites.

http://rintalaeggertsson.com/

http://www.pasiaalto.com/

The finished concept design was not fitted with a Loowatt toilet as at the moment there would not be enough users and a composting toilet alternative would be more suitable. Evaporating toilets can be a great and affordable alternative in rural locations, if they are well managed. Speaking of which check out our friends at Woowoo (www.waterlesstoilets.co.uk), they will be exhibiting a range of waterless toilets including Loowatt at this year’s ecobuild.
