Toilets
Bring Loowatt to Your City or Community
Loowatt's toilets can easily integrate into your city's existing sanitation infrastructure. Loowatt’s toilets and servicing solutions are highly suited for urban communities that face environmental and socioeconomic challenges that limit their ability to safely access conventional onsite systems, such as pit latrines or septic tanks. To help you explore whether Loowatt is right for your community, we have outlined below some of the key challenges the solution can address, ideal investors in such systems, and proposed next steps to help you achieve your vision. |
The Loowatt Solution
1. Waterless Toilets
Loowatt toilets do not use any water to flush. Our solution is perfect even if you do not have access to sufficient and affordable water to use for water-borne sanitation solutions. Water stress may be due to the lack of an existing water network, limited water resources, and / or contamination of existing water resources. |
2. Adaptable for Difficult Geology
The Loowatt system is adaptable for areas where the construction of underground systems is economically impractical. For example, regions characterised by shallow bedrock, or in cases where such systems fail to ensure the preservation of groundwater and public health, such as locations with creviced geology or a shallow groundwater table. |
3. Ready for Flood-Prone Areas
Conventional onsite sanitation systems are often unable to safeguard groundwater, surface water, and communities against the detrimental consequences of recurrent flooding. Loowatt is suitable for flood-prone areas. With climate change increasing the occurrence of floods and intensified rainfall events, the Loowatt system reduces these risks which are anticipated to increase in the foreseeable future. |

4. Easy to Implement for Unplanned Communities
Due to the high population density and limited space, it is not uncommon for informal and unplanned communities to find it challenging to allocate and build underground sanitation infrastructure. We make it easy to implement sanitation solutions for authorities unwilling or legally unable to invest in permanent infrastructure within disputed land tenure areas. |
5. Improve Safety and Security
Having a safe and hygienic home toilet improves safety and security for everyone. Vulnerable households and communities are often unable or unwilling to invest in permanent sanitation infrastructure due to lack of affordability, financing, or security of tenure. Specific family members may also be vulnerable (e.g. aged, disabled) and prefer not to share communal toilets, particularly at night. |
Who should invest in delivering infrastructure and services using Loowatt solutions?
The responsibility of leading an investment in delivering Loowatt infrastructure and services can be assumed by any of these three entities, depending on the viability of the local business case.
